How Share by Code works
Share by Code is a simple way to share a file or a short message without creating an account. You upload something, get a private code, and then give that code to the person who needs access.
Why Use Share by Code?
The purpose is to give quick, temporary access to a file or message to people you just met so you can send them what they need without giving out your phone number, email, or social media. Additionally, it makes it easy to transfer files to yourself on public devices without needing to log into your personal email.
How to use Share by Code
- Choose whether you want to share a file or share a message.
- Upload a file or type your message.
- Click the upload and generate a code button.
- Share the 6-character code or the QR code with the other person.
- They can either enter the access code into the "Check file" panel or scan the QR code.
- They can then preview or download the file, or read the shared message.
Expiry process
Every generated code is temporary. After you create a code, it stays valid for 5 minutes. During that time, the other person can open it and download or view the shared content. Once the 5 minutes are over, the code stops working and the content is no longer accessible.
When someone downloads a shared file, it is deleted immediately and its code stops working, even when the 5-minute period has not finished. Previewing a file does not delete it. A shared message is also deleted and its code stops working as soon as the recipient opens it.
Important limits
- Each file must be 10MB or smaller.
- Uploads are limited to 30 per hour from the same network or device.
- Messages can contain up to 5,000 characters.
- The generated code expires after 5 minutes.
